Artist Statement

The connection we experience in certain stories and songs, with certain people and poems leaves a brief sense of unexplainable self-assurance. But deep within us, this mysterious connection strikes a chord. With so many doubts, fears, and uncertainties suffocating our potential, as this chord plays, courage and strength are found where they once lay undiscovered.

By building story lines and creating conceptual and editorial portraits, artwork, and digitally restoring prints, I reveal themes of hope, strength, and confidence found living within a subject, even in the midst of uncertainty and despair. Often presented in the form of a series, my symbolic visual stories are alternate routes to poetry, and at times are accompanied with writing of my own.

Often I find my ambition in Deuteronomy 31:6, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Each character I create tells a story and upholds confidence in the situation they are given. My portraits and other art pieces are designed to symbolically show the value instilled in our present lives, daily.
